Assistant Director, International Student Office

Enrollment Management, International Student Scholar Services

The role of Assistant Director in the International Student Office involves providing leadership and oversight for new, incoming, and arriving international students. In addition to technical responsibilities such as processing admissions documents and verifying lawful presence, the Assistant Director will supervise staff and establish support services for new international students, focusing on immigration compliance, retention, and integration programming.

Responsibilities:

– Provide expert immigration advice and guidance to newly admitted F-1, J-1, and international students through various communication channels
– Collaborate with GSU departments and federal offices to address complex immigration issues
– Advise and assist incoming students with intricate immigration scenarios
– Conduct workshops and presentations on I-20/DS-2019 eligibility and requirements
– Utilize relevant software and systems to manage information and solve problems
– Coordinate and execute International Student Orientation
– Perform other assigned duties

Qualifications:

Minimum Hiring Qualifications:
– Master’s degree in a related field
– Experience working with F-1 and J-1 international students
– Meet the Department of Homeland Security’s requirements for Designation School Official (DSO) and Alternative Responsible Office

Preferred Hiring Qualifications:
– Excellent written and oral communication skills
– Effective organizational skills
– Knowledge of federal immigration regulations
– Knowledge of university policies
– Ability to work with a diverse population
– Familiarity with the surrounding community and available resources
