Under the supervision of the Director of ISSS, this position oversees the daily operations of ISSS, which involves managing ISSS coordinators, conducting training sessions, performing performance evaluations, organizing professional development activities, and providing guidance on matters related to student and scholar immigration sponsorship. The role contributes to compliance efforts by acting as a subject matter expert on employment and student-based immigration issues, ensuring the University of Tennessee adheres to Federal regulations and best practices. Alongside the Director of ISSS, this position acts as the liaison with the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), the Student Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP), United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), the Department of State (DOS), and the Department of Labor.
**Position Responsibilities:**
**Scholar Immigration Compliance:**
This involves overseeing and managing processes, practices, assessments, and reporting related to the immigration sponsorship of international faculty, staff, and scholars. This position acts as a subject matter expert on regulatory concerns related to H-1B, Permanent Residency, O-1, TN, and J visas, and provides training and guidance to ISSS personnel involved in advising and processing.
**Student Immigration Compliance:**
This includes reviewing and managing processes, practices, assessments, and reporting regarding the immigration sponsorship of F-1 and J-1 students. The role serves as a subject matter expert on F-1 and J-1 regulatory issues and offers training and guidance to ISSS personnel involved in advising and processing.
**Staff Supervision:**
This involves managing daily staff requests, scheduling, and conducting performance reviews. Additionally, it includes managing training and professional development plans for all staff, along with budget forecasting, preparation, and evaluation.
**Departmental Training and Advising:**
This includes consulting with departments to determine the best strategies for recruiting and retaining international researchers, staff, faculty, students, and scholars, delivering training sessions to departments, and serving as a resource for advisement.
**Participation in Workgroups, Meetings, and Professional Development:**
This includes participating in required workgroups, attending internal and external meetings, and engaging in professional organizations. It also involves necessary regulatory reviews, staying updated on knowledge, and undergoing training
