Advice for Internationally Minded Applicants

Considering applying from an international education perspective? Here are some tips to stand out and strengthen your application:

  1. Highlight Your International Experience:

Emphasize work or academic experiences abroad, background in global risk management, or familiarity with international travel planning for students, staff, or faculty. Stress your understanding of the unique challenges and opportunities faced by higher education institutions in a global context.

Experience in responding to crises (e.g., natural disasters, political instability, health emergencies) in international settings will strengthen your application. If you’ve led or contributed to initiatives in travel risk mitigation or health/safety preparedness, provide specific examples of your contributions and outcomes.

  1. Be Familiar with U.S. Higher Education Practices:

  1. Certifications & Tech Tools:

Certifications in areas like global risk management (e.g., WorldAware, ISO 31030), first aid, or emergency response may give you an edge. If you’re experienced with tech platforms commonly used for travel security or reporting, such as Terra Dotta, Riskline, or International SOS, be sure to include that information in your application.

  1. Tailor Your Cover Letter:

Specifically address your passion for global engagement and the safety of those who study, teach, or research abroad. Point out your alignment with UGA’s goals in global education and risk management and articulate what makes you a perfect fit for this position.
