Texas A&M International University

Vice President for Institutional Advancement – International Education Perspective Are you looking for an opportunity to shape global philanthropy, build transformative partnerships, and lead institutional advancement at a university with a worldwide influence? Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) is seeking a dynamic Vice President for Institutional Advancement (VPIA) who can strategically lead and elevate the University’s impact on a regional and global scale. This role is ideal for internationally minded professionals with a deep understanding of higher education, philanthropy, and external engagement who are eager to contribute to a university where diversity and cultural exchange thrive. As a Hispanic-Serving Institution deeply connected to the U.S.-Mexico border and global commerce, TAMIU provides a compelling platform for international professionals looking to make their mark. Tips for International Applicants Emphasize Global Reach in Your Application: As TAMIU is located in Laredo, Texas, the #1 inland port in the Western Hemisphere, boasting vital connections to Mexico and Latin America, you can highlight your experience leading projects or partnerships with international or multicultural dimensions. Showcase your ability to forge global partnerships or engage with corporate, governmental, or nonprofit stakeholders on an international scale. Highlight Your Multilingual Abilities and Cross-Cultural Insights: Being a border university, TAMIU values individuals who can communicate effectively across cultures. Fluency in Spanish, as well as other languages, and familiarity with global perspectives are key assets. Be sure to provide examples demonstrating your ability to navigate cross-border settings or serve diverse communities, particularly those in Hispanic-Serving Institutions or other minority-majority environments. Adapt Your Fundraising & Advancement Experience to a Global Context: International applicants should reflect on their previous accomplishments in philanthropy, resource development, or advancement with an international or cross-border scope. This could include managing campaigns that involved global donors, alumni engagement across multiple countries, or developing relationships with international corporations or foundations. Highlight how your strategic vision and innovative approaches produced measurable outcomes. Cater Your Experience Record to Align with U.S. and International Education Systems: If you have experience working in non-U.S. systems of higher education, tie it to advancements made in public universities elsewhere or translate that experience into language readily understood in the U.S. higher education context. For example, share how your experience relates to impactful programs in research growth, student success, diversity initiatives, or global collaboration. Detail Your Leadership in Advancement Operations: In this role, the VPIA oversees advancement functions including fundraising, marketing, alumni relations, and institutional partnerships. Beyond citing experience with successful fundraising campaigns, convey how you managed teams across time zones, leveraged technology to build international campaigns, or spearheaded innovation in advancement operations. Tailor Your Letter of Interest: In your letter of interest, be explicit about how you align with TAMIU’s mission of student success and socioeconomic mobility. If you possess relevant experience in U.S.-based organizations, Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSIs), or universities serving low-income or first-generation students, highlight those connections. Share how your unique skills will directly contribute to TAMIU’s strategic objectives of philanthropy and engagement. Opportunities for International Professionals This position represents more than a traditional role in advancement-it offers the chance to create meaningful connections that extend TAMIU’s mission far beyond the classroom and the border. International professionals will find an unparalleled opportunity to: Collaborate with donors, alumni, corporations, and organizations from around the globe. Leverage TAMIU’s geographic location as the U.S. gateway to Latin America, connecting the university’s global mission to key international stakeholders. Build innovative, modern advancement strategies inspired by TAMIU’s commitment to building strong community and corporate partnerships. Thrive at the intersection of global commerce, international policy, and higher education. Position Overview The Vice President for Institutional Advancement reports directly to the President and serves on the President’s Cabinet to provide bold, strategic leadership for all advancement functions. Key Responsibilities Strategic Leadership and Vision: Develop bold, future-facing advancement strategies directly aligned with TAMIU’s mission. Fundraising and Resource Development: Lead comprehensive campaigns and engage with international, corporate, and private donors. Proven leadership in large-scale fundraising, major gifts, and capital campaigns, with international or multicultural dimensions. Strategic and data-informed decision-making skills.
