Job Details Position: International Fellowships & Internships Advisor (Student Services Professional III) Company: San Diego State University Work Type: Staff Location: San Diego Categories: Unit 4 – APC – Academic Professionals of California, Probationary, Full Time, Student Services, On-site (work in-person at business location) Position Summary The International Fellowships & Internships Advisor is responsible for assisting SDSU students in applying for prestigious international fellowships and internships. They will work closely with the Global Education Office (GEO) Director and Assistant Director of GEO to support students throughout the entire process, from recruitment and application to reentry. Additionally, they will contribute to GEO marketing efforts and provide support for program review, risk management, and incident response as needed. This is a full-time, permanent/probationary position located on SDSU’s campus in San Diego. Department Summary The Office of the Associate Vice President for International Affairs oversees international programs and services at San Diego State University. These include faculty engagement, international research, international curriculum, international student services, study abroad programs, assessment, transborder programs, the SDSU Passport Office, and international alumni relations and development. The department works to meet the diverse needs of the SDSU global community, foster global perspectives and diplomacy, and promote intercultural awareness and international goodwill. Education and Experience The International Fellowships & Internships Advisor should have a four-year college or university degree in a related field, as well as counseling, interviewing, and conflict resolution coursework. Three years of professional student services work experience is typically required, though a master’s degree in a related field can substitute for one year of experience. Strong knowledge of international educational exchange, study abroad, and cultural factors impacting adjustment abroad is necessary. Key Qualifications Applicants for this role should have previous personal experience studying, living, interning, volunteering, or working abroad. A master’s degree in International Education or a related field is preferred. The ideal candidate should possess public speaking, intercultural communication, and interpersonal communication skills. They should also demonstrate strong organizational and problem-solving abilities, as well as proficiency in written and oral communication and computer usage. Experience working with diverse cultural backgrounds and collaborating with faculty and staff is essential. Compensation and Benefits The starting salary for this position is expected to be up to $5,025 per month. Salary placement will depend on the candidate’s education, experience, and qualifications.
