As part of the Student Opportunity Sub-Division’s new leadership team, the Assistant Director, International Student Success will play a crucial role. In close collaboration with the Division for Global Engagement, you will lead a team focused on international student success, advocating for their needs and experiences and implementing programs and initiatives on their behalf. The primary responsibilities of this role include guiding the successful integration of international students, fostering inclusive student communities that promote a sense of belonging, and creating an environment conducive to academic achievement and outcomes. The position primarily operates on campus, with up to two days of remote work. Key responsibilities Within this role, you will: – Establish a team dedicated to international student success. – Develop policies and practices to enhance the transition, experience, engagement, support, and sense of belonging of international students. – Collaborate closely with colleagues in the International Office to align recruitment, transition, and student experience strategies. – Analyze essential support service design and delivery to identify systemic gaps in collaboration with the Student Experience sub-division. – Work with education leaders to identify insights and interventions that promote positive academic progression outcomes for international students. – Analyze data related to progression rates and present findings to senior committees, making recommendations for future policy if necessary. – Collaborate with the Bristol Doctoral College to ensure that the diverse needs of postgraduate research students are considered in all international student success initiatives. – Collaborate with colleagues across the university to ensure inclusive curricula and teaching practices that meet the needs of a changing student population. – Utilize a data-driven, evaluative approach to interventions, ensuring continuous improvement and measurable return on investment. Requirements Candidates for the Assistant Director, International Student Success role should meet the following essential criteria: – Leadership experience in an environment focused on international student recruitment, support, and inclusion. – Experience leading multiple functions with complex responsibilities. – Ability to develop and implement strategies. – In-depth knowledge of relevant regulations and legislation, and the implications of non-compliance by the university. – Strong understanding of changes in the education, economic, societal, governmental, and technological landscapes and their impact on international student cohorts. – Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to influence, negotiate, and motivate individuals at all levels.
