### The Role As part of the University’s ambitious Internationalisation strategy, the Centre for Academic Language and Development is experiencing a dynamic period of growth. The position of Academic Advisor is integral to the Student Engagement Team, comprising a Senior Tutor, Academic Advisors, and a Progression Officer, with guidance from Centre Administration Managers. The Academic Advisor supports international students in their academic journeys, focusing on their successful progression from foundation years to undergraduate studies. This role demands a comprehensive understanding of university regulations and the ability to provide structured guidance to both students and staff. ### Responsibilities **Key Duties:** – Engage in sensitive and complex conversations and referrals, addressing a diverse range of international student cases, including those involving under-18 students. – Build strong collaborations with different university divisions such as the Faculty Education Team, Student Services, Student Visas, Residential Life, and Wellbeing. – Work closely with the Senior Tutor to manage more serious and intricate cases. – Monitor relevant data and collaborate with academic and professional services to proactively identify and support students at risk of disengagement or failure. – Contribute to the Centre by promoting best practices for student wellbeing through the Centre and Senior Tutor Network. – Serve as a Student Disability Coordinator, ensuring effective support practices are in place. ### Ideal Candidate Profile **Qualifications and Experience:** – Enthusiastic about working in a diverse, dynamic environment with international students, demonstrating an understanding of their unique needs. – Confident in conveying detailed knowledge of Higher Education academic processes. – Collaborative team player both within the Centre and the broader University community. – Proactive in taking initiative and implementing change. **Skills:** – Ability to respond professionally to sensitive and distressing disclosures, applying appropriate judgment and seeking necessary support. – Strong organizational and interpersonal skills to manage various responsibilities efficiently and effectively. ### Additional Information – For informal enquiries, please contact Abigail Rogers (abigail.rogers@bristol.ac.uk) or Tamsin Buckley (tamsin.buckley@bristol.ac.uk). – This position is subject to a DBS enhanced and barred list check. ### Our Strategy and Mission The University of Bristol recently launched its strategic plan to 2030, unifying our mission, vision, and values.
