OVERVIEW The International Student Advisor, Sponsored and General Advising role in the Global Engagement department at The University of Texas at Austin supports international students through immigration advising and student support services. This position focuses particularly on sponsored students while also providing broader advising related to university adjustment, visa regulations, and compliance matters. The role contributes to global engagement efforts by helping students navigate academic and immigration processes successfully. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES – Provide immigration advising and holistic support for international students – Advise sponsored students on sponsor requirements and university processes – Guide students regarding visa regulations and SEVIS compliance – Support students with work authorization advising – Serve as a Designated School Official (DSO) – Serve as an Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO) – Coordinate with sponsors and university offices – Contribute to international student outreach initiatives – Support international student orientation and programming – Assist students with university adjustment and advising needs REQUIREMENTS – Experience or knowledge related to immigration advising for international students – Understanding of visa regulations and SEVIS compliance – Ability to support sponsored students and coordinate with sponsors – Ability to provide student advising and holistic student support – Ability to collaborate with university offices and contribute to global engagement initiatives – Capacity to support international student programming and orientation activities – Ability to serve in DSO and ARO functions WHY THIS ROLE MATTERS International students rely on accurate advising and responsive support to maintain compliance and succeed in a university environment.
