We are looking to fill a position of Survey Geologist at the British Geological Survey (BGS) headquarters in Keyworth, Nottingham, and our offices in Edinburgh. The UKRI Pay Band C for this role is £25,702 to £27,938, and comes with a great benefits package, including an outstanding pension scheme, 30 days annual leave plus bank holidays, and access to flexi-time. As a full-time position, the role is 37 hours a week on site, with a small amount of remote working. The successful candidate will be expected to travel and work away from home in the UK for periods of several weeks during fieldwork periods. As Survey Geologist, you will join the team in the National and International Geoscience directorate and will help deliver BGS’ National Geology programme of mapping and modelling. Some key duties and responsibilities include using a range of office-based and field-based skills and techniques to make robust geological observations, developing conceptual models and interpretations, participating in field campaigns and more, as well as producing BGS outputs such as maps, models, reports and peer-reviewed papers. The ideal candidate would have a First or Upper Second-class degree in Geology / Applied Geology (or very closely related subject) plus experience producing robust geological interpretations from a variety of spatial data. They should also have knowledge of a range of geological processes related to different geological settings, with effective field-based geological skills including observation and mapping of superficial deposits and/or bedrock geology.
