Position: Hybrid with occasional international travel to the Caribbean Hours: Full-time (35 hours per week), with occasional weekend and evening work compensated with time off in lieu Contract: 36 months We are seeking an experienced project manager to assist in coordinating the planning, execution, and management of the Renewal and Reconciliation: The Codrington Reparations Project in collaboration with a counterpart position in Barbados. This is a thrilling opportunity for someone with proven project management expertise, comfortable working with various stakeholders and partners at all levels, and dedicated to the aims and values of USPG. The position requires sensitivity to the contested nature of history and active support for reparations related to the transatlantic slave trade. Familiarity with the Caribbean region, its history, cultures, and university research environments would be advantageous. The Project: Renewal and Reconciliation is a collaboration between the Codrington Trust and the United Society Partners in the Gospel (USPG). It aims to address past injustices surrounding the ownership and management of the 700-acre Codrington Estate. From 1712 to 1838, the estate was under the management of USPG’s predecessor organization, the Society for the Propagation of the Gospel in Foreign Parts (SPG). During this time, individuals of African descent endured brutal and degrading treatment, as well as the deprivation of their freedom. USPG has committed 18M Barbadian dollars (£7M sterling) over a period of 10-15 years to support a fourfold program of activities in Codrington, Barbados: community development and engagement, historical research and education, burial places and memorials, and family research. As part of a Caribbean-British team, the individual in this role will be responsible for designing and implementing the program of activities. They will collaborate closely with colleagues in Barbados (primarily online) as well as various teams within USPG.
