Job Description

Position: Senior Press Officer
Location: London based hub – with hybrid working in the UK

We are an independent, global think tank dedicated to creating a sustainable and peaceful world where every individual can thrive. We are currently seeking a Senior Press Officer to lead the strategy, planning, and implementation of international media coverage that can influence policy and decision-making around our organization’s key priorities. With our groundbreaking research and thought leadership, we aim to address the most pressing challenges of our time, and it will be your responsibility to ensure that these insights reach the right audiences and inspire action.

As the Senior Press Officer, you will be in charge of cultivating relationships with journalists, pitching stories to them, formulating proactive media plans, responding to current news events, and enhancing our global profile as a dynamic think tank. You will collaborate with our Public Affairs and Communications team and work across all seven of our research programs to promote our priority agendas, including gender justice and the climate emergency.

Additional key responsibilities of this role include:

– Developing customized media strategies for specific projects, collaborating with researchers across the institute to understand and achieve the desired influence of their work.
– Expanding our media presence in countries outside the UK where our research holds the potential for positive change.
– Training and supporting colleagues to become spokespeople for our organization, enabling us to offer a range of expert speakers in our priority areas.
– Managing our media monitoring system to provide regular updates on the performance of our media efforts to the senior management team and the wider institute, continually striving for improvement.
– Increasing our visibility across various print and digital platforms.

What we’re looking for:

We are seeking a motivated self-starter with a strong news sense and a deep understanding of the global media landscape. You should have the ability to pitch our research and ideas to high-profile media outlets in the UK, Europe, and internationally, and to enhance our reach and profile in new media markets. You should possess political awareness and experience in using the media to influence policymakers. Additionally, you should have the confidence, creativity, and drive to propose innovative ideas, provide guidance to senior colleagues, and respond swiftly to breaking news stories. You should excel in identifying what makes a compelling news story and be capable of translating complex research into accessible messages that have an impact on the target audience.

Interview date: 20th & 22nd August 2024
