OVERVIEW The Youth Worker role at Saints College supports young people to engage in online learning through the BlendED campus, particularly those facing complex health, mental health, or social barriers to attending school in person. Based in Footscray, Melbourne, this fixed-term position runs until 26 January 2028 and sits within a radically inclusive, trauma-informed, and strengths-based educational environment. The role is part of a multidisciplinary team committed to re-engaging young people with education in safe, flexible, and neuroaffirming ways. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES – Assist and support young people’s engagement in online learning – Work collaboratively with Teachers, other Youth Workers, wellbeing staff, and school leadership – Apply youth work and/or social work theories and practices in supporting young people – Support young people with disability and/or neurodivergence – Inspire and engage young people with learning activities – Support young people and team members to reach their potential – Work within the organisation’s Operating Principles of Respect, Participation, Safe and Legal, and Honesty REQUIREMENTS – Tertiary qualification in Youth Work, Social Work, Psychology, Behavioural Science, and/or equivalent experience – Thorough knowledge of youth work and/or social work theories and practices, with experience applying this knowledge – Ability to commit to and work within the organisation’s Operating Principles – Ability to obtain a Working with Children Check – Ability to provide a National Police Check certificate issued within the last six months – Previous experience and/or qualifications relevant to supporting and/or leading an organisation’s commitment to being a child safe organisation – Strong interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to communicate successfully with a range of people – Experience supporting young people with disability and/or neurodivergence – Willingness to support young people and colleagues to reach their potential WHY THIS ROLE MATTERS This role plays a key part in supporting young people who have experienced significant barriers to mainstream education, including trauma, disability, and social exclusion. By focusing on relationship-based practice and flexible online learning, the Youth Worker helps young people reconnect with education and build confidence in their abilities.
