OVERVIEW The Study Abroad Lead role at the University of Auckland is a senior, student-facing leadership position focused on inspiring participation in global learning through exchange and study abroad. It combines internal marketing, people leadership, and operational delivery to ensure students are aware of, excited by, and supported into international learning opportunities. Reporting to the Associate Director Global Partnerships and Development, the role plays a central part in shaping how study abroad is promoted and experienced across the University. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES – Lead and support a diverse team delivering study abroad and exchange activity – Activate student-focused marketing plans across digital and on-campus channels – Build international partnerships that support and inspire student mobility – Drive process improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency, quality, and consistency – Upskill faculty staff to confidently promote study abroad opportunities – Engage directly with students to promote global study experiences REQUIREMENTS – Proven experience in marketing, ideally student, audience, or engagement focused – At least three years’ experience leading a team with a focus on student mobility and exchange – A minimum of five years’ experience in the tertiary education sector or a large, complex organisation – Demonstrated experience contributing to process improvement or service redesign initiatives – Strong understanding of digital marketing and its role in student engagement – Willingness and ability to undertake international travel as part of the role WHY THIS ROLE MATTERS Study abroad participation relies heavily on awareness, confidence, and effective institutional support. This role ensures that global learning opportunities are clearly communicated, operationally sound, and aligned with student needs and aspirations. By strengthening processes, partnerships, and messaging, the Study Abroad Lead contributes directly to high-quality international experiences and sustainable mobility programmes.
