OVERVIEW The Indigenous Graduate Research Program Coordinator is a continuing, part-time (0.8 FTE) role based at the University of Melbourne’s Parkville campus within the Melbourne Poche Centre for Indigenous Health. The position focuses on advancing Indigenous doctoral success in health by leading graduate research initiatives across the Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences. This role is open only to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander applicants under a Special Measure provision. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES – Lead Indigenous graduate research strategy and provide high-level advice to the Director on Indigenous PhD initiatives. – Design and deliver masterclasses, seminars, and bespoke academic support for Indigenous PhD students within the Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences. – Plan and deliver the biennial international Indigenous PhD workshop and other flagship graduate research events. – Build strong partnerships across faculties, institutes, and external networks to enhance opportunities for Indigenous graduate researchers. – Secure funding and contribute research that strengthens Indigenous doctoral pathways and leadership in health. – Contribute Indigenous scholarship and help shape broader conversations on Indigenous higher degree research. REQUIREMENTS – Identify as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person. – Hold a PhD in a relevant field, or be near completion, with experience in Indigenous health or education. – Demonstrated experience designing and delivering academic programs that enhance opportunities for Indigenous graduate research students. – Deep understanding of Indigenous graduate researcher experiences and the higher education and research environment. – Proven ability to coordinate complex workloads, balance competing deadlines, and deliver outcomes in dynamic academic settings. – Demonstrated capacity to build collaborative relationships across faculties, institutes, and external partners, and to contribute to inclusive Indigenous leadership. – Current valid work rights for Australia, noting that visa sponsorship is not available. – Willingness and ability to obtain a Working with Children Check. WHY THIS ROLE MATTERS Indigenous participation and leadership in doctoral research are critical to strengthening culturally informed health research and outcomes. This role supports Indigenous PhD candidates through culturally safe pathways while influencing institutional practice across a leading health faculty.
