OVERVIEW The Department of Education Victoria is seeking a Student Support Services Social Worker to join the Inner Gippsland Student Support Services team within the Schools and Regional Services division. This fixed-term, part-time position is based in Leongatha and supports children, young people, families, schools, and communities across the region. The role focuses on assessing and developing strategies to address emotional and mental health needs within an educational context while contributing to a multidisciplinary health and wellbeing team. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES – Assess and develop strategies to address emotional and mental health needs of children, young people, and their families within an educational context – Work as part of a multidisciplinary team to support students and teachers – Provide comprehensive student support services to schools – Support student health and wellbeing across a broad range of areas – Assist with learning issues and behavioural issues affecting students – Support students with disabilities and mental health concerns – Assist students with school and work transitions – Provide support relating to self-esteem, grief and loss, trauma, and anger management – Support students with relationship and conflict issues – Address concerns related to sexuality and drug or alcohol involvement – Collaborate with schools, regional teams, and service providers to improve learner outcomes – Report to the Student Support Services Branch Manager REQUIREMENTS – Graduate or post-graduate qualification in Social Work – Qualification must be acceptable for membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW) – Current Australian Driver’s Licence – Current Working with Children Check – Ability to work within a multidisciplinary team environment – Ability to support student health and wellbeing in educational settings – May be required to complete a police check and other pre-employment checks WHY THIS ROLE MATTERS Student wellbeing and mental health are essential to positive learning and development outcomes.
