OVERVIEW The School Chaplain / Student Wellbeing Officer role at Sacred Heart Primary School, Tocumwal is a temporary part-time position focused on supporting the holistic wellbeing of students within a small, close-knit Catholic school community. Working five hours per week until 31 December 2026, this role contributes to pastoral care, student wellbeing, and community connection. The position sits within the broader Catholic Education Diocese of Wagga Wagga, which is committed to nurturing students academically, socially, and spiritually. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES – Provide support for the holistic wellbeing of students – Help to foster positive key interpersonal relationships within the school, including student-staff, student-student, and home-staff relationships – Liaise with community service organisations when required – Create opportunities for the social and emotional development of students – Enhance student engagement with the parish and broader community – Support pastoral care initiatives as requested REQUIREMENTS – Meet the NSCP’s minimum qualification requirements, including a Certificate IV in Youth Work or Pastoral Care (or equivalent) with competencies in mental health and making appropriate referrals – Demonstrate Christian values when engaging with children, parents, staff, and the general public – Demonstrate the ability to perform the role as outlined by the National School Wellbeing Program – Have an understanding of childhood development and issues pertinent to children and young people – Have the confidence, ability, and experience to communicate and work with children and young people – Implement a student-focused approach when working with key stakeholders – Demonstrate the ability to work consistently and positively within a team – Ensure that timely records are maintained on the service provided to the school – Hold a current NSW Working With Children Check – Successfully undergo a National Criminal History Check – Hold Accreditation for Support Staff in a Catholic School (Category A, Accreditation to Work Teach and Lead in Systemic Catholic Schools, Catholic Education Diocese of Wagga Wagga) or be willing to achieve it WHY THIS ROLE MATTERS School Chaplains and Student Wellbeing Officers play a vital role in supporting students’ emotional, social, and spiritual development, particularly in small school communities where relationships are central to learning.
