OVERVIEW The Work Placement Coordinator at Torrens University Australia plays a central role in delivering high-quality Work-Integrated Learning experiences for students, particularly within counselling and community services disciplines. Based in Surry Hills, Sydney, this permanent full-time position works across internal and external stakeholders as part of a national team. The role focuses on bridging academic study with real-world professional practice through safe, timely, and appropriate placement opportunities aligned with curriculum and accreditation requirements. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES – Ensure high quality Work-Integrated Learning through the provision of safe, timely, appropriate, and sufficient community services placement experiences in line with curriculum requirements – Ensure placement experiences meet relevant industry accreditation requirements – Coordinate student placements, including preparation and overall placement experience – Actively engage with organisations in the community to secure placement opportunities for counselling students – Identify, assess, and build relationships with new placement providers rather than relying solely on existing partnerships – Network within the sector, attend industry events, and communicate directly with employers to understand placement capacity and suitability – Maintain and develop industry relationships to support a steady flow of quality placements – Work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders as part of a national team REQUIREMENTS – Minimum of 5 years’ experience in counselling or a related sector – Demonstrated understanding of dual-role responsibilities, including counselling delivery and placement coordination – Strong knowledge of student placement processes and requirements – Familiarity with relevant management systems and administrative procedures – Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and commitment to continuous professional development – Ability to work competently and harmoniously with colleagues and students of all cultures and backgrounds – Computer literacy in appropriate discipline-specific and learning technologies as per business requirements – High service ethos and strong work commitment WHY THIS ROLE MATTERS Work-integrated learning is critical in preparing students for professional practice, particularly in fields such as counselling where applied experience is essential.
