OVERVIEW The Koorie Student Support Officer role at GOTAFE is a full-time, ongoing position based in Shepparton, supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students in vocational education. The role focuses on providing academic, cultural, and personal support to help Koorie students engage successfully in their studies and learning environment. This position is designated under Section 12 Special Measures of the Equal Opportunity Act (2010) and is open only to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES – Provide academic support to Koorie students both in and out of the classroom. – Increase Koorie student engagement in learning. – Create and maintain a supportive and culturally appropriate environment for Koorie students. – Support students who require additional academic assistance. – Establish relationships and partnerships with key stakeholders. REQUIREMENTS – Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander identity (designated position under Section 12 Special Measures). – Certificate IV in Education Support or Community Services, or willingness to obtain, or a combination of lesser qualifications and relevant experience. – Demonstrated experience in providing a supportive and culturally safe environment. – Understanding of Indigenous communities and the ability to identify the needs of relevant community groups. – Understanding of issues encountered by Indigenous students when entering a formal educational setting such as TAFE. – Ability to establish relationships and partnerships with key stakeholders. – Current Police Check issued no more than six months prior to commencement. – Current Victorian Working with Children Check (Employee) or proof of application. – Current driver’s licence (car).
