OVERVIEW The Assistive Technology Advisor at Western Sydney University is a full-time, ongoing professional role focused on enabling accessible and inclusive learning experiences. Based at the Penrith campus with flexible working arrangements, the position sits within the Library’s Student Skills & Engagement Team. The role directly supports students with disability by ensuring equitable access to learning through effective use of assistive technologies. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES – Provide personalised consultations to students to identify learning needs and recommend appropriate assistive technologies – Deliver workshops, training sessions, and online resources to build student capability in using assistive tools – Support the use of technologies such as screen readers, text-to-speech, speech-to-text, note-taking, and document accessibility tools – Collaborate with Library colleagues, Disability Services, Information Technology and Digital Services, and academic staff to promote inclusive teaching and accessible learning materials – Contribute to the design and delivery of Library programs that enhance digital literacy and study skills – Maintain awareness of emerging assistive technologies, accessibility standards (such as WCAG), and sector best practice REQUIREMENTS – Demonstrated experience supporting assistive technology in a higher education, disability support, or similar context – Strong knowledge of a range of assistive and adaptive technologies – Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate technical concepts into practical support – A collaborative mindset and the ability to work across teams – A clear commitment to equity, diversity, and the success of a diverse student population – Evidence of full-time working rights in Australia WHY THIS ROLE MATTERS This role plays a critical part in widening participation and supporting student success by removing barriers to learning.
