OVERVIEW The Student Wellbeing Officer role at MacKillop Catholic College supports secondary students by providing first-line wellbeing assistance within a dedicated Wellbeing Centre. Based in Mornington on Hobart’s Eastern Shore, this term-time position focuses on social, emotional, and psychological support, contributing to a safe, inclusive, and values-driven school environment. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES – Act as the first point of contact for students accessing wellbeing support – Contribute to the effective operation of the Wellbeing Centre – Provide immediate, practical support by triaging student needs and prioritising appropriate responses and referral pathways – Build positive and respectful relationships with students while maintaining professional boundaries and clear expectations – Manage a high volume of student interactions with competing priorities and frequent interruptions – Monitor student attendance and movement, and proactively locate and support students of concern in line with College protocols and duty of care requirements – Maintain accurate and confidential wellbeing records and administrative processes – Provide administrative support to the Director of Pastoral Care for day-to-day Wellbeing Centre operations – Work collaboratively with Heads of House to support coordinated and timely responses to student wellbeing needs REQUIREMENTS – Minimum of 2+ years’ experience in a wellbeing or student support role – Working with Vulnerable People Registration – National Police Check – Mental Health First Aid qualification or willingness to obtain – Ability to build trust with students while maintaining appropriate boundaries – Capacity to remain calm and think clearly under pressure – Sound judgement to assess situations and prioritise effectively – Strong communication skills adapted to different audiences – Ability to manage competing demands with accuracy and discretion – Desirable qualification in counselling, community services, or a similar field WHY THIS ROLE MATTERS Student wellbeing roles are essential to ensuring that young people feel safe, supported, and ready to engage in learning.
