OVERVIEW The Adviser, First Nations Students role at Charles Sturt University is a full-time, continuing position designed to provide culturally grounded support to First Nations students throughout their university journey. Based in either Albury-Wodonga or Port Macquarie, the adviser works closely with students, families, communities, and colleagues to ensure students feel welcomed, supported, and confident. This is an identified Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander position and plays a central role in the university’s commitment to First Nations student success. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES – Provide one-on-one and group support to First Nations students, both on campus and online, throughout their university experience. – Assist students to settle into university life, connect with appropriate services, and navigate academic and personal challenges. – Coordinate and contribute to programs delivered through First Nations Student Connect. – Work collaboratively with colleagues, families, and community organisations to ensure consistent and culturally grounded student support. – Build and maintain strong, supportive relationships with students and stakeholders. – Deliver organised, high-quality support services that prioritise student wellbeing and confidence. REQUIREMENTS – Experience using inclusive, culturally aware approaches to support First Nations people in ways that meet their needs. – Strong communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to work effectively with a wide range of people and organisations. – Ability to work independently, remain organised, manage competing priorities, and deliver high-quality outcomes. – Confidence using technology and willingness to learn new systems to support client-focused service delivery. – Ability to satisfy and maintain a Working with Children Check in accordance with NSW legislation. – Eligibility to work in Australia as a citizen, permanent resident, or holder of a valid work visa appropriate to the role. – Willingness to provide confirmation of Indigenous Australian identity, as this is an identified position.
