OVERVIEW The Outreach and Access Manager at the University of Sydney is a leadership role focused on widening participation and increasing student enrollment from underrepresented cohorts. Working closely with the Director, Domestic Recruitment and Access, the position is responsible for developing and managing outreach, access, and pre-tertiary recruitment strategies aligned with the University’s strategic priorities. This full-time, 12-month fixed-term opportunity is based in Camperdown, Sydney NSW and involves leading initiatives that support prospective students from low socio-economic, regional, remote, Indigenous, and other non-traditional backgrounds. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES – Lead the Outreach and Access team on school outreach, access projects, and pathways – Develop strategic initiatives to increase participation in the University of Sydney from underrepresented cohorts – Develop workshops in schools and with community partners – Collaborate with the Director, Domestic Recruitment and Access to develop a strategic plan to reach and engage low socio-economic status, regional and remote high schools, and Indigenous students – Oversee and evaluate entry programs designed to recruit underrepresented cohorts – Build relationships with internal and external stakeholders – Deliver outreach and recruitment programs aimed at attracting students from low socio-economic, regional, remote, and non-traditional backgrounds – Provide expert advice and guidance on increasing participation, scholarships, and admissions pathways – Drive the execution of strategic projects to increase access to the University of Sydney – Partner with university units and high schools to deliver consistent university-wide support programs for prospective students REQUIREMENTS – Successful track record utilising attraction methodology for student recruitment and/or widening outreach participation – Experience consulting proactively with leadership, partners, and stakeholders to support strategic decision making and process improvement initiatives – Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills – Ability to build trusted relationships internally and externally, particularly with high schools and industry partners – Inclusive leadership style that encourages and motivates high performance – Ability to manage tactful performance conversations with direct reports when required – Ability to design and execute strategies that provide a positive and seamless pre-student experience – Unrestricted work rights in Australia for the duration of employment – Ability to satisfy pre-employment and background check requirements – Eligibility to obtain and maintain a Working with Children Check clearance – Alignment with the University’s values of courage, creativity, openness, engagement, inclusion, diversity, respect, and integrity WHY THIS ROLE MATTERS This role contributes directly to improving access to higher education for students from underrepresented communities.
