OVERVIEW The VPC Education Support Officer role at the University of Melbourne is a full-time, continuing position based in Shepparton, within the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Indigenous portfolio. The role supports Indigenous young people through a community-centred education initiative that blends classroom learning with sport and cultural activities. It offers the opportunity to make a visible, positive impact on education, wellbeing and employment pathways for Indigenous students in the Goulburn Valley region. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES – Support recruitment and enrolment of ASHE students, including liaison with families, agencies and service providers. – Provide daily practical support to students, including transport assistance, attendance monitoring, and encouragement to meet study and placement commitments. – Assist teachers in the VPC classroom by motivating students and supporting engaging learning, sport and group activities. – Coordinate and participate in community, cultural and traditional games activities that strengthen student identity and connection. – Contribute to the planning, delivery and reporting of ASHE programs, including ASHEDay, ASHEFest and student pathway planning. REQUIREMENTS – Hold a Certificate IV or Diploma, or equivalent education, training and experience in youth support. – Demonstrated experience supporting Indigenous young people and understanding challenges affecting them, their families and communities. – Active commitment to youth development, with experience motivating and encouraging daily participation. – Developing skills in group facilitation and activity delivery, with the ability to solve problems constructively. – Ability to model positive workplace behaviours and collaborate effectively in multidisciplinary teams. – Strong communication and presentation skills. – Sound knowledge of the Shepparton Indigenous community, including Rumbalara Football Netball Club. – Basic Microsoft Office skills. – Eligibility to apply as an Indigenous Australian under the Special Measure Provision, Section 12 (1) of the Equal Opportunity Act 2011 (Vic). – Current valid work rights for Australia. – Willingness to obtain and hold a Working with Children Check.
