OVERVIEW The ESCC Learning Specialist role at MacKillop Specialist School is a non-traditional teaching position focused on re-engaging young people through highly personalised education. Working in a flexible and dynamic environment, the role delivers one-on-one and small group learning across the Eastern region of Victoria. The position supports learners with diverse needs to build foundational skills and transition toward mainstream education, vocational pathways, or further study. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES – Provide tailored one-on-one and small group learning support to build student engagement and skills – Deliver personalised tutoring, targeted interventions, outreach, and advocacy for young people – Collaborate with teachers and wellbeing staff to adapt and support learning programs – Foster trusting relationships with students, families, and external support teams – Support classroom-based and co-curricular learning activities – Supervise students and maintain a structured, safe environment across school settings – Assist with operational tasks including learning resources, organisation, and administrative support REQUIREMENTS – Minimum of two years of demonstrated teaching experience – Tertiary qualification in Education – Demonstrated experience working with children and young people who have experienced trauma and present with diverse needs – Demonstrated professional experience, training, and skills in delivering supportive and empowering services for young people – Ability to understand and work within Child Safety Standards and guidelines – Valid and current driver’s licence – Satisfactory criminal history check – Valid Employee Working with Children Check – Valid and current NDIS Worker Screening Check for risk-assessed, client-facing roles – Ability to address the full Key Selection Criteria as outlined in the Position Description WHY THIS ROLE MATTERS This role plays a critical part in supporting young people who may be disengaged from traditional education systems.
