OVERVIEW The Student Support Officer role at the Institute for Urban Indigenous Health (IUIH) focuses on supporting students undertaking Aboriginal Health Worker and/or Aboriginal Health Practitioner qualifications. The position is designed to ensure students experience culturally safe, supported, and work-ready training and clinical placement pathways. Based in Windsor, Brisbane, the role contributes directly to strengthening the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health workforce in Southeast Queensland. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES – Support student attendance through proactive engagement and problem-solving to address barriers – Deliver mentoring to strengthen students’ connection to culture and community throughout their training journey – Provide tailored training support through the implementation and advocacy of Individual Learning Support Plans – Deliver individual or group tutoring and ongoing mentoring to promote successful course completion – Conduct community and employer site visits, where applicable, to strengthen support networks and monitor student progress – Engage regularly with key stakeholders including employers, students, and the broader community to ensure a holistic and supportive learning environment REQUIREMENTS – Current C Class Driver’s Licence (Queensland) – Current Criminal History Check – Current Working with Children Check (Queensland Blue Card) – Certificate III in Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care or equivalent – Demonstrated experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and/or communities (desirable but not mandatory) – Certificate IV or higher in Training and Assessment (desirable but not mandatory) WHY THIS ROLE MATTERS This role plays a critical part in building a skilled and supported Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health workforce by addressing barriers to student success and promoting culturally safe learning environments.
