OVERVIEW The Student Engagement Officer role at The University of Western Australia supports the delivery of a high-quality international student experience at a globally ranked institution. Based at the Claremont Campus, this part-time, fixed-term position focuses on student engagement, wellbeing, and community building within the Centre for English Language Teaching. The role offers the opportunity to work closely with international students and colleagues to foster connection, belonging, and positive outcomes throughout the student lifecycle. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES – Support the design and delivery of student experience programs, including orientation activities, events, and graduation celebrations. – Foster student connection, participation, and a sense of belonging through engagement initiatives. – Contribute to student wellbeing initiatives, including providing pastoral care. – Monitor and support under 18 international students in line with compliance requirements. – Collaborate with internal stakeholders and the broader community to deliver student engagement activities. – Enhance the overall international student experience through student-focused services and programs. – Assist with organising student activities such as lunches, BBQs, and pizza parties. – Participate in occasional weekend and after-hours work as required by events and programs. REQUIREMENTS – Relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent experience in student services, higher education, or a related field. – Demonstrated experience supporting student engagement, wellbeing, or pastoral care initiatives. – Experience ideally gained within an international education context. – Strong communication and interpersonal skills. – Ability to create engaging content and build relationships across diverse student groups. – Proven organisational skills, including managing competing priorities, coordinating events, and meeting deadlines. – Cultural awareness and understanding of challenges faced by international students. – Sound judgement and professionalism when handling sensitive matters. – Eligibility to pass employment checks, including those related to gender-based violence, sexual harassment, and related misconduct. – A valid Working with Children Check. – A valid “C” class driver’s licence. – Relevant rights to work in Australia.
