OVERVIEW The Student Support Officer at Sunraysia Institute of TAFE (SuniTAFE) plays a central role in supporting student engagement, wellbeing, and retention. Based in Mildura and working within the Student Support Services team, the role focuses on early intervention and collaborative strategies to help students remain connected to their training and achieve long-term educational success. Reporting to the Team Leader – Student Support Services, this position works closely with teaching staff and internal and external partners. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES – Proactively identify students at risk of disengagement through early intervention, monitoring attendance, academic progress, and wellbeing indicators. – Work collaboratively with Education Delivery teams, teachers, Koorie Liaison Officers, and Student Support Services to support retention and explore alternative training pathways. – Conduct intake assessments and provide confidential counselling, advocacy, and ongoing case management support. – Lead and participate in student engagement initiatives, including inductions, wellbeing, social, and recreational activities. – Collaborate with diverse community groups and external agencies. – Facilitate referrals to appropriate internal and external services. – Act as an advocate or mediator to support students in resolving concerns or conflicts. – Monitor, document, and report on student engagement activities, incidents, outcomes, and feedback. REQUIREMENTS – Relevant Degree or Diploma with relevant work experience, or a suitable combination of a lesser qualification and significant relevant experience. – Demonstrated ability to build strong specialist networks and interact effectively with colleagues, students, teachers, and support agencies. – Demonstrated ability to effectively support vulnerable people to achieve positive outcomes. – Excellent interpersonal communication skills to build relationships and communicate with stakeholders. – Experience in an education environment would be advantageous. – Successful criminal record check that is less than six months old. – Valid Working With Children Check.
