OVERVIEW Federation University Australia is seeking a Safer Communities Officer to support students through trauma-informed, person-centred case management and equity-focused initiatives. This part-time continuing role is based at the Mt Helen or Berwick campus and sits within Student Services and Registrar. The position focuses on risk assessment, safety planning, referrals, and prevention activities related to discrimination and gender-based violence. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES – Provide person-centred case management and support through risk assessment, safety planning, case management, and referrals – Contribute to the implementation of the University’s Gender-based Violence Prevention and Response Plan – Maintain effective case management practices, including timely and concise case notes, data collection, and safe storage of information – Facilitate consultation with diverse student cohorts to support equity initiatives related to the prevention and response of discrimination and gender-based violence – Consult and engage with diverse student cohorts to improve the effectiveness of equity initiatives – Contribute to the preparation of reports, presentations, web documents, and training materials aligned with the role – Build and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders – Respond professionally to complex and sensitive situations while managing competing priorities REQUIREMENTS – Demonstrated experience and expertise in trauma-informed and person-centred case management – Demonstrated success working in an equity-related field providing client services – Experience in discrimination and gender-based violence work is highly regarded – Excellent written and verbal communication skills – Ability to prepare high-quality case notes, reports, and presentations – Applied understanding of equity and inclusion principles, intersectionality, and cultural safety – Commitment to ongoing learning and professional development – Demonstrated ability to exercise sound professional judgement – Ability to manage competing priorities effectively – Demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective stakeholder relationships – Qualifications that meet the mandatory minimum qualifications requirements for specialist family violence response roles in Victoria, or currently working towards these qualifications – Valid Employer Working With Children Check (WWCC) WHY THIS ROLE MATTERS This role contributes to creating a safer and more inclusive university environment for students from diverse backgrounds.
