OVERVIEW The Work Placement Coordinator role at Torrens University Australia is a permanent, full-time position based at the Surry Hills campus in Sydney. It focuses on delivering high-quality Work-Integrated Learning (WIL) experiences, particularly for counselling students, by ensuring placements are safe, appropriate, timely, and aligned with curriculum and accreditation requirements. The role operates within a national team and involves extensive collaboration with both internal university stakeholders and external industry and community partners. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES – Coordinate student placements to ensure they meet curriculum requirements and industry accreditation standards – Ensure the provision of safe, timely, appropriate, and sufficient community services placement experiences – Prepare students for placement and support the overall placement experience – Actively secure placement opportunities for counselling students by engaging with organisations in the field – Build and maintain industry and community relationships, including with mental health clinics, schools, non-profit organisations, and community support services – Network with employers, attend industry events, and assess potential placement providers for suitability – Work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders as part of a national team REQUIREMENTS – Minimum of 5 years’ experience in counselling or a related sector – Demonstrated understanding of dual-role responsibilities, including counselling delivery and placement coordination – Strong knowledge of student placement processes and requirements – Familiarity with relevant management systems and administrative procedures – Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and commitment to continuous professional development – Ability to work competently and harmoniously with colleagues and students of all cultures and backgrounds – Computer literacy in appropriate discipline-specific and learning technologies as per business requirements – High service ethos and strong work commitment WHY THIS ROLE MATTERS Work-integrated learning is a critical bridge between academic study and professional practice, particularly in counselling and community services where real-world experience is essential.
