OVERVIEW The Deputy Director – Student Advising is a senior leadership position within CQUniversity’s Students Directorate, responsible for shaping and strengthening student advising services across a multi-campus and digital environment. The role focuses on delivering a consistent, high-quality advising experience that supports student success, satisfaction, and retention from enrolment through completion. Working within the Student Service SPOT model, this position combines strategic leadership, operational oversight, and service innovation at scale. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES – Leading the strategic direction and optimisation of student advising services. – Driving performance and continuous improvement across student advising functions. – Using data and insights to improve student outcomes and the student experience. – Strengthening and enhancing the Student Service SPOT model. – Leading and managing a geographically dispersed, multi-campus advising team. – Collaborating with academic and professional areas to enhance the student journey. – Overseeing service design, programs, and initiatives aligned to student needs. – Managing resources and workforce planning to support sustainable service delivery. – Building staff capability, engagement, and performance within advising teams. – Contributing to institutional strategy, policy development, and service design as part of the Directorate leadership team. REQUIREMENTS – Postgraduate qualifications with extensive relevant experience, or equivalent senior management expertise. – Proven success in leading customer-focused service functions, including strategy development, operational delivery, and resource management. – Demonstrated ability to lead and inspire high-performing, geographically dispersed teams. – Highly developed interpersonal, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills, including the ability to influence at senior levels. – Strong analytical capability with experience using data to inform strategy and continuous improvement. – Deep understanding of the Australian tertiary education sector and student advising practices. – Knowledge of contemporary student success, retention, and engagement strategies.
