OVERVIEW The Student Engagement Officer (Senior School) at Canterbury College plays a central role in shaping the daily experience of students in Years 7 to 12. This highly visible position focuses on student presence, engagement, and the consistent application of expectations across the Senior School. Working closely with senior leadership and pastoral staff, the role supports a well-ordered, positive environment where students are known, supported, and held to clear standards. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES – Maintain a consistent presence across the Senior School, particularly during arrival times, transitions, and breaks – Monitor and follow up on student attendance, including unexplained absences and late arrivals – Support expectations for student presentation, including uniform, grooming, and overall appearance – Reinforce positive conduct and support the smooth movement of students throughout the school day – Administer and track detention and follow-through processes using TASS – Work closely with Heads of House to identify and respond to patterns in student behaviour and engagement – Liaise with families where required regarding attendance and presentation matters – Support student conduct expectations on buses and in public settings – Contribute to a culture in which students take pride in their participation in College life REQUIREMENTS – Confidence in working with young people in a secondary school setting – Ability to build rapport quickly and respectfully with students – A calm, consistent, and professional approach to addressing day-to-day issues – Strong organisational skills, attention to detail, and reliability in ensuring follow-through – Experience in a school or youth-focused environment (highly regarded) – A current Working with Children Check (Blue Card) – Willingness to be supportive of the Anglican ethos of the College WHY THIS ROLE MATTERS Student engagement, attendance, and conduct are foundational to learning and wellbeing in any school community.
