OVERVIEW Northern Victoria Institute of TAFE (NVITAFE) is seeking a Disability Transition Officer to support students with disabilities as they move from secondary school into further education. This full-time fixed-term position runs until 15 February 2028 and can be based at any campus. The role sits within the Student Success and Retention team and focuses on providing personalised transition support, stakeholder collaboration, and enrolment assistance during the student journey. NVITAFE operates across multiple campuses in Northern Victoria and nationally through training partnerships with the Australian Defence Force. The organisation is focused on delivering high-quality vocational education while supporting learners to build skills, confidence, and future opportunities. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES – Provide attraction and personalised support services to students with disabilities – Guide students from secondary school through their first 90 days at GOTAFE – Collaborate with schools and care teams to support student transitions – Facilitate wrap-around support services for students – Support smooth enrolment processes for students with disabilities – Build and maintain positive relationships with stakeholders – Work autonomously and take ownership of responsibilities where required – Contribute to the Student Success and Retention team – Support inclusive practices aligned with disability rights and reasonable adjustments REQUIREMENTS – Relevant degree and relevant experience; or lesser formal qualifications with substantial experience and specialist expertise; or a suitable combination of relevant qualifications and experience – Understanding of challenges faced by students with disabilities during educational transitions – Knowledge of relevant policies and legislation related to disability rights and reasonable adjustments – Strong verbal and written communication skills – Ability to work autonomously and make independent decisions when necessary – Skills in stakeholder engagement and relationship management – Current National Police Check issued within three months of commencement – Current Employee Working with Children Check or evidence of application – Current driver’s licence where required – Completion of Child Safe Training and a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check WHY THIS ROLE MATTERS This position plays an important role in improving access to education for students with disabilities by helping them navigate transition points that can often be complex and challenging. Effective transition support can strengthen student confidence, participation, and retention in vocational education. The role also contributes to broader inclusion goals within the education sector by supporting equitable access and ensuring students receive appropriate support services and reasonable adjustments during their early learning experience.
