OVERVIEW The Department of Education is seeking Home Economics Assistants for a pool of permanent and fixed-term, full-time and part-time opportunities at Eaton Community College in Western Australia for the 2026 and 2027 school years. This role supports teachers in delivering planned education programs while helping maintain a safe, organised, and productive learning environment for students. Home Economics Assistants contribute directly to classroom operations, student supervision, and the preparation of learning resources and practical activities. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES – Assist teachers in the delivery of planned education programs – Support the care and supervision of students – Prepare and maintain learning environments for classes and activities – Ensure equipment, materials, and resources are available for classes, displays, demonstrations, and activities – Store equipment and materials safely and appropriately after use – Support courses including Caring for Children, Children Family & Community, and Barista Skills – Support safe and hygienic food preparation practices – Maintain inventory records and monitor stock levels – Submit requisitions for approval – Undertake regular cleaning and maintenance activities as directed – Contribute to a safe, well-maintained, and productive learning environment – Work effectively both independently and as part of a team REQUIREMENTS – Experience in Caring for Children, Children Family & Community, or Barista Skills is highly desirable – Demonstrated good oral and written communication skills – Ability to interact effectively with students, parents, and teaching professionals – Demonstrated good interpersonal skills and ability to work as part of a team – Demonstrated good organisational skills to assist in delivering effective education programs – Demonstrated ability to assist with the general health and wellbeing of students – Ability to prioritise tasks, use initiative, and work efficiently – Proactive and positive approach to the role – Australian or New Zealand citizenship, permanent residency, or a valid visa with relevant work rights – Valid Working With Children Check before commencement – Consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check – Current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education’s Screening Unit before commencement – Additional eligibility and training requirements as outlined in the Job Description Form – Application must include a CV and a statement addressing the selection criteria WHY THIS ROLE MATTERS Home Economics Assistants play an important role in supporting practical learning experiences that help students develop life skills, safety awareness, and confidence in classroom settings.
