OVERVIEW The Student Wellbeing Advisor (Trades Focus) at TAFE Gippsland is a full-time, ongoing role based primarily at the Yallourn Campus, with responsibilities across Yallourn and Traralgon. The position sits within the Student Wellbeing Support Team and focuses on providing general and specialist wellbeing support to students, particularly those enrolled in Trades programs. The role supports students experiencing wellbeing challenges that may affect their participation, retention, and success in vocational education. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES – Provide short to medium term wellbeing support and assistance to students to help them achieve positive outcomes in their chosen course – Serve as the primary point of contact for students seeking general support, advice, and assistance – Use a collaborative approach to assist students in managing wellbeing challenges impacting their studies – Link students to appropriate internal and external services and supports when required – Deliver general wellbeing support to students across the Traralgon and Yallourn campuses – Provide specialist wellbeing programs and targeted support to students in the Trades course area – Support students presenting with complex social, emotional, mental health, or educational barriers affecting participation and success – Develop and maintain positive working relationships with Trades educators, Apprenticeship Support Officers, and the wider Educational Delivery team – Work with trades student representatives to co-design relevant wellbeing supports and promotional activities aligned to student needs REQUIREMENTS – Relevant vocational qualifications in Education, Social and Community Welfare, Community Services, or Counselling (desirable) – Experience in the provision of support services – Demonstrated commitment to and experience in person-centered practice – Ability to communicate effectively and build rapport with students – Current Victorian Working with Children Check – Current Police Check (not older than 12 months) – Current Driver’s Licence WHY THIS ROLE MATTERS Student wellbeing is a critical factor in learner engagement, retention, and completion, particularly in vocational and trades education where students may face complex personal and educational challenges.
