OVERVIEW The Indigenous Student Success Officer is a full-time, ongoing role at Western Sydney University based at the Parramatta South Campus, with flexible work arrangements available. This identified position supports Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students through culturally safe, strengths-based approaches across their academic journey. Working closely with the Badanami Centre for Indigenous Education and other student support units, the role contributes to improved access, retention, and success for Indigenous students while strengthening relationships with Indigenous communities. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES – Build and maintain strong, respectful relationships with Indigenous Elders and communities. – Provide culturally safe, holistic advice and support to Indigenous students throughout their studies. – Organise and contribute to culturally appropriate student-focused events and initiatives. – Advise university staff on culturally appropriate practices, protocols, and policies impacting Indigenous students and communities. – Monitor and report on Indigenous student support programs and initiatives. – Work collaboratively with the Badanami Centre for Indigenous Education and other student support units to enhance the student experience. REQUIREMENTS – Identified position: applicants must be an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person, as authorised under Section 14(D) of the NSW Anti-Discrimination Act 1977. – Ability to meet the requirements of the Guidelines for Confirmation of Identity for Indigenous Australians. – Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline with extensive professional experience. – Strong understanding of Indigenous cultures, histories, and contemporary issues. – Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders. – Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a complex environment. – Evidence of full-time working rights in Australia.
