OVERVIEW The Student Recruitment Officer role at the University of Newcastle is a continuing, full-time position focused on engaging and inspiring prospective Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students. Based at the Callaghan Campus on Awabakal land, this role supports access to higher education through culturally grounded recruitment and outreach. It is an identified position, with Aboriginality recognised as a genuine occupational qualification under NSW legislation. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES – Deliver targeted student recruitment strategies to high schools and community organisations – Plan and coordinate engagement and recruitment events on University campuses, including Wollotuka – Build and maintain strong, professional relationships with internal and external stakeholders – Ensure effective communication and collaboration across teams and partner organisations – Implement programs and initiatives designed to attract and inspire prospective Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students – Foster awareness of educational opportunities available at the University of Newcastle REQUIREMENTS – Identification as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person, with ability to provide Confirmation of Aboriginality in line with University procedure – A degree with subsequent relevant experience, or extensive experience and specialist expertise in an administrative or related field, or an equivalent combination of experience and education/training – Demonstrated experience in student recruitment and the ability to contribute to the development of marketing plans to recruit students – High-level verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to engage with primary and secondary schools and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students – Strong initiative, an approachable manner, and motivation to attract prospective students – Ability to implement the values and objectives of the Wollotuka Cultural Standards in all aspects of work – Demonstrated ability to generate team spirit, cooperation, and collaboration within and across teams WHY THIS ROLE MATTERS This role directly supports equity and access to higher education by strengthening pathways for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students.
