The Department of Humanities & Law at Bournemouth University is currently seeking an exceptional researcher with expertise in international migration law and/or the law of the sea. This individual will contribute to the policy development of the research project ‘Mass Grave Protection, Investigation & Engagement – a comprehensive universal human rights framework’ (MaGPIE). MaGPIE is a five-year project funded by the European Research Council (ERC) that aims to develop a human rights framework focused on mass graves. The selected candidate will work under the guidance of project lead Professor Melanie Klinkner and Dr Ellie Smith. They will conduct research and analysis to inform policy development on the protection, investigation, and engagement concerning mass graves resulting from land migration, trafficking, and those found at sea. The successful applicant will be part of a larger research team dedicated to delivering the objectives of MaGPIE. We are seeking a proactive and self-motivated individual with excellent communication skills, problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and effective teamwork capabilities. Strong experience in stakeholder liaison and a PhD in a relevant branch of international law (or similar field) is required, as well as research experience with a focus on policy development. An interest in mass graves is essential, and familiarity with the legal and stakeholder landscape surrounding mass graves would be advantageous. In addition to our expertise in mass graves and human rights, the Department of Humanities & Law houses the Centre for Intellectual Property Policy & Management (CIPPM), renowned for its global leadership in IP scholarship and practice. The department is part of the Faculty of Media and Communication, one of the largest of its kind worldwide, known for its combination of research in the creative industries with teaching and professional practice. Our campus is located between the picturesque New Forest and the beautiful sandy beaches of Bournemouth and Poole, with Dorset’s Jurassic Coast, a World Heritage Site, nearby.
