OVERVIEW The Director of Immigration Services for Students and Scholars provides institutional leadership for immigration services that support international students, scholars, faculty, and staff. Based at the University of Mississippi, this role serves as the primary authority on U.S. immigration regulations within the higher education context and ensures institutional compliance with federal requirements. The position combines operational oversight, regulatory expertise, and strategic advising to advance the university’s global engagement mission. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES – Lead the development, administration, and oversight of institutional immigration services for international students, scholars, faculty, and staff – Serve as the primary subject matter expert on U.S. immigration regulations affecting higher education – Ensure institutional compliance with federal immigration requirements governing international populations – Direct immigration operations within the Office of Global Engagement – Oversee visa sponsorship processes for international students, scholars, faculty, and staff – Manage SEVIS compliance and related reporting obligations – Supervise and guide staff responsible for immigration services – Provide strategic guidance on immigration matters to campus leadership – Oversee employment-based immigration processes – Oversee exchange visitor immigration processes – Monitor changes in immigration regulations and assess institutional impact – Support the integration and success of international students and scholars REQUIREMENTS WHY THIS ROLE MATTERS Immigration compliance and effective advising are critical to an institution’s ability to attract and retain global talent.
