The Department of Mechanical and Materials Engineering (MME) within FIU’s College of Engineering and Computing (CEC) is seeking qualified candidates for a full-time tenured or tenure-track faculty position, starting in Fall 2024. This position specifically focuses on advanced manufacturing of materials. Potential applicants should possess research interests in the broad field of advanced materials and manufacturing, with an ability to collaborate with existing research programs and align with the department’s strategic priorities. Research areas of interest include but are not limited to additive manufacturing and bio-manufacturing for structural, energy, and health applications. Candidates with experience in large-scale, industry-focused additive manufacturing of metals and/or ceramics are particularly encouraged to apply. Successful candidates will be expected to develop innovative research programs and contribute to the undergraduate and graduate teaching and research commitments of the MME department, emphasizing mentorship, interdisciplinary collaboration, collegiality, and scholarship. Applicants should possess a Ph.D. degree or equivalent in Materials Science Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related engineering field. They must also demonstrate a strong record of scholarly work, teaching excellence, and a commitment to mentoring a diverse undergraduate and graduate student population in Mechanical and Materials Engineering. Additionally, candidates should exhibit potential or a proven track record of securing external research funding of international renown. Collaboration with other MME faculty members and departments within the CEC and FIU is expected. The MME department is currently involved in major multi-university and multi-PI projects, including NSF ERC, NSFPREM, DOE-MSIPP, NASA-MIRO, and ARL-Cold Spray and Rapid Deposition Lab (ColRAD).
