OVERVIEW The University of Nottingham is seeking a senior leader for the newly created role of Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Global & Regional Engagement. Reporting to the President and Vice-Chancellor and serving on the University Executive Board, this role brings together global engagement and regional impact for the first time. It offers a high-profile opportunity to shape the university’s civic mission, international partnerships, and global footprint across its UK, Malaysia, and China campuses. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES – Oversee the university’s ambitions for global engagement, regional impact, and civic mission – Provide inspirational leadership to strengthen the university’s role as an anchor institution in the East Midlands – Deepen partnerships with regional, cultural, health, business, and community stakeholders – Advance the university’s global reputation, international partnerships, and global footprint – Own and lead both the global and regional engagement strategies – Act as a senior ambassador with government, cultural, industry bodies, and international agencies – Ensure the UK, Malaysia, and China campuses operate with additive and synergistic value as a single global institution – Develop and maintain relationships at ministerial, governmental, diplomatic, and sector leadership levels REQUIREMENTS – A track record of senior leadership in roles requiring significant external representation and relationship-building – Experience in institutional diplomacy within higher education, government, the diplomatic service, or other complex organisations – Proven ability to identify, secure, and grow strategic partnerships that enhance reputation, research collaboration, and commercial value – Strong interpersonal and ambassadorial skills – Ability to lead with cultural intelligence and an inclusive approach – Capacity to communicate complex ideas with clarity and impact to a wide range of senior stakeholders WHY THIS ROLE MATTERS This role sits at the intersection of global engagement and regional responsibility, ensuring that international ambition delivers tangible local and societal benefit.
