OVERVIEW The University of Kentucky seeks an Associate Vice President for Global Engagement to serve as the institution’s senior international officer. Based in Lexington, Kentucky, this leadership role provides strategic and operational direction for the university’s global engagement efforts and oversees the University of Kentucky International Center (UKIC). Reporting to the Vice President for Student Success, the position focuses on advancing internationalization, supporting student success, strengthening research collaboration, and expanding the university’s global impact. The role requires a collaborative and student-centered leader who can guide institutional strategy while managing complex international partnerships and programs. The Associate Vice President will represent the university in national and international settings and provide guidance on global trends and emerging issues in international education. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES – Provide visionary and operational leadership for global engagement initiatives across the university – Ensure alignment between global engagement efforts and university priorities related to student success, research excellence, and institutional impact – Guide the university’s global strategy and advance a comprehensive approach to internationalization – Oversee the University of Kentucky International Center (UKIC) – Lead the development and execution of a cohesive international strategy – Strengthen and expand global partnerships – Oversee international student and scholar services – Support international recruitment and enrollment efforts – Advance global learning initiatives – Promote international research collaboration and health initiatives – Serve as a principal advisor to university leaders on global trends, geopolitical dynamics, and emerging opportunities in international education – Represent the University of Kentucky in national and international forums – Manage complex global partnerships – Ensure excellence in compliance, risk management, and operational effectiveness across global initiatives REQUIREMENTS – Dynamic leadership approach – Collaborative leadership style – Student-centered perspective – Ability to provide strategic leadership in global engagement – Ability to oversee operational functions related to international programs and services – Experience guiding internationalization efforts and institutional global strategy – Capacity to manage global partnerships and international initiatives – Knowledge of global trends and geopolitical dynamics affecting higher education – Ability to support international student and scholar services – Ability to represent the institution in national and international forums – Experience ensuring compliance, risk management, and operational effectiveness in global initiatives WHY THIS ROLE MATTERS International engagement plays a significant role in advancing institutional priorities related to student learning, research collaboration, and global partnerships.
