OVERVIEW Southern Illinois University at Carbondale is seeking a Program Director for its study abroad program. This role focuses on managing and developing international programs that support students, faculty, and staff participating in study abroad opportunities. The position includes leadership responsibilities, program coordination, budgeting oversight, and international partnership management. The Program Director serves as an important representative for international initiatives at the university. The role also supports health and safety planning and supervises advisors who guide students pursuing study, work, and travel opportunities abroad. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES – Manage various aspects of study abroad programs at the university – Initiate and develop study abroad programs – Handle budgeting for programs – Coordinate faculty recruitment for international programs – Oversee student selection processes for study abroad participation – Manage logistics related to programs abroad – Provide leadership to study abroad staff and faculty – Manage exchange programs with other institutions – Coordinate international scholarship programs – Act as the university’s international representative – Promote health and safety measures for students, faculty, and staff during study abroad programs – Supervise advisors assisting students with study, work, and travel opportunities abroad REQUIREMENTS – Experience managing study abroad programs – Ability to oversee budgeting and program logistics – Experience coordinating with faculty and staff – Ability to manage international exchange programs – Leadership and supervisory experience – Ability to support health and safety practices in international programs – Strong organizational and coordination skills WHY THIS ROLE MATTERS Study abroad programs create opportunities for students to expand academic and cultural understanding through international experiences.
