OVERVIEW The Director of Education Abroad at Washington State University provides strategic leadership for a comprehensive portfolio of global learning opportunities. This role combines vision-setting with operational oversight to support students and faculty participating in international programs. The position plays a central role in advancing the university’s internationalization mission while ensuring safety, quality, and compliance across education abroad activities. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES – Provide strategic leadership for the institution’s education abroad and global learning portfolio – Shape the curricular and co-curricular vision for education abroad programs – Oversee operational management of education abroad activities supporting students and faculty traveling internationally – Lead international health and safety operations and related risk management efforts – Ensure program quality and regulatory compliance across education abroad offerings – Safeguard traveler well-being through effective policies, procedures, and oversight – Manage a complex organization supporting global education initiatives – Cultivate and maintain global partnerships that support international learning – Advance the university’s broader internationalization mission REQUIREMENTS WHY THIS ROLE MATTERS Education abroad is a critical component of comprehensive internationalization strategies in higher education.
