Position Title: International Student Advisor (Student Services Professional II) Department: International Education Department, California State University, San Bernardino Job No: 524983 Employment Type: Full-Time, Probationary, On-site (work in-person at business location) Job Summary: The International Student Advisor is responsible for providing advanced academic and immigration-related advising to international students, with a focus on partnership program participants and non-degree-seeking exchange students. This role includes various advising, engagement, and support activities within the Center for International Studies and Programs (CISP). Major Duties and Responsibilities: Under the supervision of the Associate Dean, the International Student Advisor will perform the following duties: 1. Advise International Partnership Program (IPP), transitory, and exchange students on academic matters, campus procedures and policies, cultural adjustment, and immigration issues. 2. Coordinate group advising sessions and participate in the planning and implementation of international student orientations. 3. Communicate with international partners, campus stakeholders, and academic departments to address the needs of partnership and exchange students. 4. Assist in the development of academic and educational plans for students. 5. Monitor student academic progress using Oracle/CMS and/or EAB systems. 6. Provide guidance to students on degree/program completion, alternative academic options, scheduling conflicts, and other related issues. 7. Utilize effective counseling techniques to support student success and refer students to appropriate campus resources. 8. Establish and maintain strong relationships between the IPP unit and other on-campus support services. 9. Collaborate in planning college- and campus-wide programs for partnership and international students. 10. Coordinate program activities for partnership students, including correspondence, document processing, recruitment activities, and program assessment/improvement. 11. Work with International Admissions, Student Financial Services, and International Extension Programs staff to ensure efficient recruitment, admission, enrollment, and orientation of partnership students. 12. Support efforts to develop partnerships with universities overseas in collaboration with academic departments. Student Engagement: 1. Coordinate with internal university stakeholders to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion goals. 2. Support outcome-based programming for international students, focusing on orientation, transition, belonging, and success. 3. Contribute to the development of information workshops, wellness programs, cultural events, and other activities that enhance the inclusion and well-being of international students. 4. Create content to increase student engagement, raise awareness, and foster collaboration among students and campus community. 5. Prepare communication pieces that address student needs and highlight available support services. Immigration Services: 1. Serve as a Designated School Official and Alternate Responsible Officer to support immigration needs of partnership and exchange students. 2. Provide travel signatures and general immigration advising to all partnership and exchange students. Other Duties: 1. Coordinate the efforts of student assistants. 2. Support student outreach activities. Minimum Qualifications: – Bachelor’s degree in behavioral sciences, public or business administration, or a related field. – Two years of professional experience in student services or a related field (additional specialized experience can be substituted for education). – Working knowledge of program practices, procedures, and activities. – General knowledge of organizational and program management. – Proficiency in research, interview techniques, and principles of individual and group behavior. – Ability to interpret and apply program rules and regulations. – Initiative, resourcefulness, and ability to plan and implement program improvements. – Ability to gather and analyze data, make decisions, and present information. – Excellent counseling and advising skills. – Ability to work with diverse populations and establish effective relationships. Preferred Qualifications: – Master’s degree in Counseling, Communication, Education, or International Studies. – Second language proficiency. – 1-3 years of experience advising international students. – Knowledge of degree requirements and partnership agreements at CSUSB. – Skills in design, presentations, and communication planning. – Familiarity with PeopleSoft, EAB/Navigate, and Online Service Request processes. – Knowledge of immigration regulations and laws related to F-1 and J-1 visas. Compensation and Benefits: – Anticipated Hiring Range: $4,610 – $4,647 per month. – Classification Salary Range: $4,610 – $6,556 per month. – Comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, vision plans, retirement benefits, vacation and sick leave, and tuition fee waiver program.
