OVERVIEW The Director of Study Abroad is a senior leadership role responsible for the oversight and successful delivery of study abroad programs at the American College of the Mediterranean – Institute for American Universities. Based in San Diego, this position works closely with institutional leadership, partner institutions, staff, and students to ensure academic programs abroad operate smoothly and meet organizational goals. The role combines strategic coordination, operational management, and student-facing support within a global education context. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES – Oversee study abroad programs in collaboration with the ACM-IAU Leadership Team – Act as a liaison between ACM-IAU and partner institutions – Supervise the Study Abroad area – Serve as the main point of contact for situations requiring escalation – Assist on-site staff and administrators with program management – Support Study Abroad Advisors with pre-departure preparations, including international visa requirements – Oversee the promotion of various study abroad programs while managing critical deadlines – Provide necessary support and administrative functions to ensure successful academic programs abroad – Advise students when needed – Serve as an active member of various international committees and groups REQUIREMENTS WHY THIS ROLE MATTERS Study abroad programs are complex, high-impact experiences that require careful coordination across institutions, countries, and cultures. This role plays a central part in maintaining program quality, managing risk, and ensuring students receive the academic and logistical support they need before and during their international experience.
