OVERVIEW The Director of Global Risk and Safety provides university-wide leadership for managing health, safety, and security risks associated with international travel. Based within Texas Global at the University of Texas at Austin, this role focuses on protecting students, faculty, and staff participating in activities abroad. The position combines strategic oversight, policy development, and operational coordination to ensure international travel is conducted responsibly and with appropriate risk mitigation. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES – Provide university-wide leadership and strategic oversight for the health, safety, and security of University travelers abroad, including students, faculty, and staff – Establish and advance international travel risk management policies – Oversee travel registration processes for international travel – Manage processes related to travel to restricted regions – Lead risk assessments for international programs – Coordinate preparedness and response for travel-related incidents and emergencies abroad REQUIREMENTS WHY THIS ROLE MATTERS As universities expand their global footprint, effective international travel risk management is essential to sustaining safe and responsible engagement abroad.
