OVERVIEW The Director, Global Risk and Safety at the University of Texas at Austin provides institution-wide leadership for managing health, safety, and security risks associated with international travel. Positioned within Texas Global, this role focuses on protecting students, faculty, and staff who engage in education, research, and programs abroad. The position blends strategic oversight with operational coordination to ensure the university’s global activities are supported by strong risk management practices. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES – Provide university-wide leadership and strategic oversight for the health, safety, and security of students, faculty, and staff traveling internationally. – Lead international travel risk management efforts across the institution. – Oversee compliance with university international travel policies. – Manage the review and approval process for travel to restricted or high-risk regions. – Coordinate emergency preparedness planning for incidents affecting travelers abroad. – Lead and support emergency response efforts for international incidents. – Collaborate with university leadership on global risk and safety issues. – Coordinate with external partners related to international health, safety, and security.
