OVERVIEW The Student Affairs Advisor at Computer Systems Institute Inc plays a central role in supporting students throughout their academic experience at the Mission Hill campus. Reporting to the Vice President of Student Affairs and Career Development, this position focuses on delivering responsive student services while ensuring compliance with academic, institutional, and immigration-related requirements. The role is particularly significant in serving international students and fostering a supportive campus environment. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES – Provide customer service to all students on campus – Monitor student academic progress – Maintain accurate and up-to-date student records – Advise students on F-1 student status and work authorization – Apply federal immigration regulations as they relate to students – Coordinate with Designated School Officials (DSOs) – Organize and support student events, including an International Student Festival – Support both academic and non-academic student needs – Adhere to FERPA regulations when handling student information REQUIREMENTS – Ability to adhere to FERPA regulations when managing student records and information WHY THIS ROLE MATTERS Student Affairs Advisors are often the first point of contact for students navigating academic expectations, institutional processes, and personal challenges. In an international education setting, this role is especially important in helping students understand and maintain compliance with U.S. immigration regulations while feeling supported and engaged on campus. By coordinating services, advising on status issues, and building community through events, this position contributes directly to student success and retention. BONUS: APPLICATION ADVICE – Highlight experience working directly with students, particularly in advising, customer service, or student support roles – Demonstrate familiarity with international student advising, especially any exposure to F-1 regulations or immigration-related processes – Emphasize organizational skills and experience maintaining accurate records in compliance-driven environments – Share examples of event planning or student engagement initiatives you have supported or led – Communicate clearly your ability to balance regulatory compliance with a student-centered approach – Prepare to discuss how you handle sensitive information and uphold confidentiality standards such as FERPA
