OVERVIEW This opportunity invites families and education-minded households to host international J-1 exchange students through AnB Education in Grandview, Missouri. Host families play a central role in helping students aged 15–18 experience U.S. culture while attending a local public high school. The focus is on cultural exchange, student wellbeing, and meaningful connection rather than employment or financial compensation. By opening their homes, hosts support students from Asia, Europe, and South America as they adapt to life in the United States. AnB Education and a local coordinator provide ongoing support to both students and host families throughout the exchange period. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES – Welcome an international J-1 exchange student into the home – Provide a bedroom for the student – Provide meals during the student’s stay – Provide transportation to and from school if needed – Offer a welcoming and supportive family environment REQUIREMENTS – Ability to host an international exchange student aged 15–18 – Availability of a bedroom for the student – Capacity to provide regular meals – Ability to assist with transportation to and from school if needed – Willingness to create a welcoming home environment WHY THIS ROLE MATTERS Host families are essential to the success of international exchange programs because they provide the daily cultural immersion that classrooms alone cannot offer. Living with a host family helps students develop language skills, cultural understanding, and personal independence during a formative stage of life. At the same time, host families gain global perspectives and meaningful cross-cultural relationships that often extend well beyond the exchange period. BONUS: APPLICATION ADVICE – Reflect on your household’s daily routines and how a student could comfortably participate in family life – Be clear about expectations around meals, transportation, and household norms when speaking with program representatives – Ask questions about the support provided by AnB Education and the local coordinator to understand how challenges are handled – Consider how your community, school district, and neighborhood can support a positive student experience – Discuss the hosting commitment with all household members to ensure shared understanding and enthusiasm – Highlight any previous experience with cultural exchange, mentoring, or working with young people when expressing interest This hosting opportunity is best suited for families who value cultural exchange, flexibility, and relationship-building. While there is no monetary compensation, all other student expenses are covered by the students and their families, allowing hosts to focus on providing a stable and welcoming environment.
