OVERVIEW The Assistant Director of Study Abroad at Howard University plays a central role in coordinating and overseeing all undergraduate learning abroad activities. Based in Washington, D.C., this position provides strategic and operational leadership to ensure that study abroad programs align with institutional goals and meet academic and compliance standards. The role works across campus and with external partners to support students, faculty, and staff engaged in global learning. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES – Coordinate and oversee all undergraduate learning abroad activities at the university – Provide strategic oversight of study abroad programs – Develop and maintain study abroad policies and processes – Design and deliver pre-departure and re-entry programming for students – Manage relationships with external program providers – Oversee course approval processes related to study abroad – Support faculty involved in study abroad programming – Advise students participating in learning abroad opportunities – Supervise staff members and student workers – Collaborate closely with campus partners and external providers to ensure alignment with university goals and compliance requirements REQUIREMENTS WHY THIS ROLE MATTERS Study abroad programs are a critical component of comprehensive undergraduate education, providing students with global perspectives and intercultural skills.
